Donal is the Principal of the Firm which he founded in 1996.
He is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin and qualified as a solicitor in 1982.
Donal is one of the most experienced practitioners in the field of employment law. He also has extensive experience in litigation, representing parties before the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court. He advises and represents clients in both contentious and non-contentious employment matters and on all aspects of the employment relationship from recruitment to termination. He advises and represents clients, including directors, executives, employees, consultants, employers and trade unions, on employment issues in a wide range of sectors, including pharmaceutical, retail, banking, tech and healthcare. He has represented parties in employment litigation before all employment and industrial relations tribunals and in the Courts. He deals with workplace investigations, grievances and disciplinary hearings and mediations.
Donal also practises and advises in the area of partnership law and sports law. In sports law he has dealt with contentious matters involving high-profile clients, especially rugby players. He regularly advises partners and partnerships on all aspects of the partnership relationship and agreements including duties and responsibilities, non-compete clauses, discrimination claims, dismissals and dispute resolution.
Recent matters on which Donal has advised include:
- Protected disclosures involving internal investigations, external investigations, statutory investigations and High Court proceedings.
- Acting for over 700 clients in High Court breach of contract proceedings for underpayment of salary spanning an eight-year period.
- Acting on behalf of a trade union in defending Commercial Court proceedings for damages regarding threatened strike action.
- Advising and negotiating for senior employees in relation to termination of employment.
- Acting on behalf of an executive in defending High Court proceedings where the employer sought to enforce non-compete restrictions.
Donal is a trained Mediator and is a member of the Mediators Institute of Ireland.
